Supporting Doctors and other health professionals to integrate complementary therapies.

The education of doctors and other mainstream health professionals in the apropiate use of complementary therapies is a core component of Health 2000's work.

Since 1991 GP's have been allowed to recommend complementary treatments on the NHS. Training for effectively using such therapies has however been limited. All doctors and other health professionals have a deep responsibility for their patients well being and ensuring they receive to best care possible and complementary therapy is part of that care.

Health 2000 helps train doctors and other health professionals in three major ways:

1. By providing of model of a successful integrated NHS general practice.

Elmfield Health Group has embraced complementary therapies throughout its practice. All mainstream medicine and complementary therapies are based around the doctor's ancient responsibility as a healer and not simply a expert in a particular paradigm. The practice allows other interested health professionals to visit and observe the practice in operation, and the way in which the patients well being is put at the top of the agenda whilst ensuring the practice continues to be a successful business. If you are a doctor or other health professional and you are interested in any aspect of shadowing or modeling Elmfield Health Group please contact Dr Anthea Anand

2. By Training Medical Students in the University of Newcastle upon Tyne.

Dr Anthea Anand and Dr Anand are holistic doctors who runs a module with the University of Newcastle upon Tyne Medical school. for 3rd year medical students - for the full syllabus and contact details visit the university website

3. By providing workshops, talks and opportunities to meet practicing complementary therapists in a structured and beneficial environment.

Observing and experiencing first hand complementary therapists is an excellent way for doctors and other health professionals to learn about the benefits of complementary therapies. It promotes health professionals confidence in the beneficial nature of the therapies and increases their knowledge of the type of patients most likely to benefit from a complementary therapy course. Please contact Dr Anthea Anand if you are interested in observing a complementary therapist. Alternatively you can arrange to attend one of the complementary therapy events run by health 2000 and associated organisations
